I had the pleasure of staying at the Portmarnock Hotel recently. I was doing business in North Dublin and the location suited me perfectly. I have to say it was a fantastic stay. I find Averil in the sales department wonderful to deal with. I was checked in by Garbour – who was lovely and friendly and went out of his way later in the evening to obtain an old nokia charger for me. I stayed in a sea view room, which was beautiful. Really loved it, decorated in egg shell blue with a very inviting looking bed.

As a female staying in a hotel by myself, I love to order room service. Had a great sea food salad which was delivered very promptly. The glass of wine was also very generous and I appreciated that!

It was just a pleasure to wake up to the sound of the sea, I really didn’t feel like I was on business and the shower was just fab – nothing like the sunflower/rain showers to wake you up in the morning. I took a walk around the hotel after breakfast. I like that there are many areas where you can do your own thing and find a comfortable spot and read the newspaper or avail of the free wifi. I was looking at the hotel from a Conference/meeting organiser prospective and this is what I thought make the hotel a great choice –

· Free parking and lots of it

· Easy to access and close to the airport

· Main conference room has its own access

· Choice of meeting room – plenty of break out space centrally located

· Great pre-registration and coffee break areas

· Mix of old world and new – blend of the original Jameson Family home with contemporary lobby, rooms and restaurant

· Golf – world renowned golf course

· Great evening entertainment options – lovely bar area that can be made private.

· Plenty of options in the area for incentive or evening entertainment- Malahide Castle is just on its door step- link to things to do –

· It is right on the coast – wonderful beach walks and a lovely garden area. I noticed many business people taking a walk before starting their day.

Other Dublin Venues – to hold an event, conference or meeting.

So hope you liked this post. I will be reviewing a venue in Ireland every week so do check back. If you would like to talk to me about any venue in Ireland do just call, I would be happy to offer my expert advice. 353 (0) 26 21015

Venue Review – The Clarion Dublin Hotel IFSC – Financial Services Centre

March 19, 2009
Conference Facilities Clarion IFSC, Pegasus Room

Conference Facilities Clarion IFSC, Pegasus Room

I stayed overnight at the Clarion Hotel recently and had a great experience, it is very much accommodates the business traveller and is a great Conference venue and Meeting hotel in Dublin City Centre.

What I loved

*Lolly pops and water on each conference table

 * Natural light through-out

 *Power shower

*Personal wake-up call – that was bang on time.

 * High Powered Hair dryer

First impressions and location — The Clarion Hotel is a great Dublin business hotel, it is located in the IFSC and convenient to the O2 Music Venue and close to the Dublin Convention Centre opening in 2010. It is also –

• within walking distance to the heart of Dublin City Centre

• will have a Luas line on its door step next year

• the fact that it has its own car park is a big advantage, I do feel however that signage from the car park to the hotel could be improved as the car park elevator does not lead directly to the hotel lobby.

The atmosphere is business like and professional, all staff were attentive to my needs, in particular Joe who escorted me to my car and carried my  bags.  He has been in the hotel industry for over 10 years and is a true hospitality professional.

Conference and Event Space

There is a choice of up to 3 rooms for groups of up to about 80-110, with plenty of break out space –

  • all rooms are airy with lots of natural light
  • the needs of the meeting organiser have also been thought of with registration facilities outside each and a meeting tool kit in each room
  • Free Broadband facilities
  •  ceiling mounted projection system which can display, laptop, DVD and VHS display and of course climate control

For me the  Columbia room in the basement was my favourite with plenty of space out side the room for tea/coffee facilities.  No rooms are far from the restaurant/bar  area which makes networking at tea/coffee break time easy to do.  Overall there are  10 rooms ranging in size from 4 to  110 theatre style.

Accommodation

The Video says it all really.  If you are a light sleeper, request an “internal” room, not over looking the Quays as early morning traffic may disturb you.  It didn’t wake me up but I am not a light sleeper!  I had a great nights sleep, beds and duvets were very comfortable.

Great size gym with exercise classes and a lap pool

Great size gym with exercise classes and a lap pool

This Dublin City Centre business hotel is well equipped with a large gym and swimming pool  and I particularly like the fact that there are exercise classes that guests can join each evening.  You can also avail of a choice of newspaper delivered to your door in the morning.

Overall I found the hotel to be well thought through for business, conferences, meetings and events and I met a guest who stays there every week so that is always a great reference.  Joe was very accommodating and assisted me to my car with my baggage and refused to accept a tip.  I very much liked the genuineness of his guest service.

Venue Review – The Fabulous Radisson Royal Hotel Dublin

February 5, 2009

A Fantastic Dublin City Centre Hotel –

Sky Suite Party Venue

Sky Suite Party Venue

You know not all brand hotels get it right in terms of service levels, atmosphere and level of luxury, but the Radisson Royal Dublin City Centre  have ticked off most of the boxes for me. I consistently get great feedback from clients who have held an event there and I very much enjoy attending events there myself! The most recent one I attended was the blog awards held Oct 11th – arranged by — Damien Mulley – creator of the Irish Web Awards

Feedback –

While a free bar for the first hour or so is always a fantastic start to an event, I was there from set up time to ensure everything was going according to plan. I was pleased to see that the hotel staff were on hand to assist with the organisation and supervise set up and of course make sure the client is happy which he was. They also had a consistent presence through-out the event.  The Organiser Damien was delighted with service and how the event went.  The cocktails in particular kept everyone smiling!

First Impressions and Location

Very Central – In general my review of a hotel starts from the first time I see it, approach to the hotel and the sense of arrival. The location of the Radisson Royal is very central and is indeed great, it is built in an area that is changing fast and will undergo more regeneration over the next few years, there are some nosey neighbours across the street but I have not heard of them bothering guests. South Great George St is less than a 2 minute walk where you are right into the hustle and bustle of Dublin City Centre; Grafton Street is about a 5 minute walk and location wise for corporate travellers they love the buzz of the city centre. The IFSC would be a nice 15 minute walk in the morning or indeed a short taxi drive, but the south city business district around Stephens Green is about a 5-10 minute walk. A perfect Dublin City Centre Hotel.

On walking into the lobby, decor is modern, funky but not over done. You immediately get a great vibe from the hotel and know you are in a popular Dublin Venue. Reception staff have always been very accommodating and responsive to my needs.

Hang out areas

The lobby has some great space to hang out in- either to catch up on email or have a bite to eat or wander casually into the bar. The SURE Bar serves some serious cocktails…..

Dublin City Centre Meeting Space –  Comfortably accommodates up to 300.

Conference room off main lobby area

Conference room off main lobby area

The meeting space – – is functional, well equipped and well laid out. The main conference or event room is located right off the lobby area, featuring a great reception area with bar and counter space. Ideal for a casual lunch or tea/coffee area. It also has access out to a great patio area so it is very easy to get some fresh air while at an all day Conference in Dublin. The room divides in 3 and comfortably fits up to 300. The remainder of the hotel conference facilities is on the first level – it is a great mix of light filled rooms accommodating from 10 – 60 again, well laid out, equipped with modern AV and overall has a feeling of a successful meeting.

Dublin City Centre BBQ and outdoor space

Summer BBQs, Corporate Parties and Team building events…. For corporate BBQs or team building events there is a fantastic urban oasis… a large patio area, that is sheltered and a great spot of a summer party. It would be very unique to the city as very few hotels have such outdoor space.

Dublin City Centre Accommodation – while I can’t say that I have stayed there, rooms look great, are very functional and equipped for both the business and leisure traveller. Overall, the hotel gets top marks from me.

Overall Attitude

I find the sales staff excellent to deal with, very responsive and up for a laugh. Which is always a great attitude to have in this business.
